2 Chronicles 25:9
9 And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.
We find King Amaziah in the same predicament we have often been in ourselves. He planned according to his thinking, hired 100,000 soldiers from the nation of Israel, and never took a second thought about what he was doing, he acted out of instinct instead of inspiration. This was an expensive mistake on his part, the hundred talents of Silver he had paid wouldn't be refunded and in today's money, this was to the tune of three to three and half million USD. How many times have we acted on instinct instead of waiting to hear from the Lord, or just thinking through the situation a bit? I know personally I've cost myself a lot of time, money, and heartache by hasty decisions made outside of his will and wisdom.
This wasn't a bad idea on the part of King Amaziah, he was fighting a formidable army and needed all the help he could get, but this overshadowed the fact that these men were of the Nation of Israel, the northern Kingdom, who had rebelled against God and were currently under Judgment. The problem was who he was depending on and God was not pleased with them nor anyone partnering with them. Often we are tempted to partner with men who have greater means than we do, or with methods that are not pleasing to God, when we do we make a mistake that will cost us. We will come to the point Amaziah came to that day, where we have to decide what we are willing to part with, will it be the money or our God? Will it be relationships with men or with God? Thankfully Amaziah made the right decision and he parted with his money and sent the Israelites away offended and marched on to victory. He lost his money and ruined his relationship with the Men of Ephraim but he won the battle and did so with the help of God, not man nor methods.

One preacher said, "Be prepared to offend everyone but God" and that is the price of obedience, we must be willing to part with everything and everyone except our right standing with God. Count the cost, put what you will lose in the balances, and weigh that against the eternal power and promises of our God, then you will know "The LORD is able to give thee much more than this."
