Morning Manna | Deuteronomy 7:22 | Little by Little

Deuteronomy 7:22 And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.

God had promised victory to Israel in the Promise Land but not all at once. They were going to put out the foes “Little by Little.” So it is with our Christian life, God has given us victory over sin, self, and the world. This victory is certain the moment we are saved but it is experienced little by little. Day by day we are given victory. We shouldn't be discouraged if there are still battles we are fighting with sin, so long as we are fighting. It may be that this battle will be won “Little by little.” If there are still many distractions drawing you away from God, one by one, little by little they will fall away, and some days and years from now you will look back and see that “Little by little” you have become more like the Savior. We will never win the victory all in one day, but throughout our life in Christ, day by day, little by little we are formed into his image. God had a perfectly good reason for their victory being little by little. “Lest the beast of the field increase upon thee." If all the population of the promised land fell off suddenly then the many beasts of the place would multiply and they would not be prepared to deal with them, and that would give rise to another danger and mar their peace in the promised land. God tempers us with our victories, it could be that too many victories would not be good for us. I know that is a hard pill to swallow, as far as we are concerned, the more victory the better, but God can see so much clearer than we can and he knows what victory will do to a man. Too much and our pride may increase like the beast of the field and while we were set free from an outward foe, we will then be consumed by an inward one. Too much success and freedom and suddenly there is an increase in unthankfulness and apathy. Too much easy living and suddenly our laziness increases to an unmanageable level. Rest assured God has a perfectly good and logical reason for this “Little by little” strategy in our lives. Trust him and trust his processes, and little by little he will give victory as he sees fit and even discouragement as he sees fit. Working ALL things together for our good.
