Morning Manna | Joshua 21:41 | All the cities of the Levites

Jos 21:41  All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.

If you look at a map of the promised land and all its territories you will not find a lot given to the tribe of Levi. Here at the close of this portion of the book about inheritances, we find that they didn't receive plots of lands or territories but rather cities. At first sight, this seems like an unfair lot, all their brothers receiving huge plots of land and all they are receiving are a few cities within their brother's inheritance.

We must keep in mind that this was not their inheritance but rather their provision. Deuteronomy 18:2 tells us what their inheritance was; "Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the LORD is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them." They had the greatest inheritance of all! They had an eternal inheritance that fadeth not away! In reality, they had received the best lot of all the Tribes, an eternal inheritance, and the promise of earthly provision.

Dear Christian, don't make the mistake of comparing your provision to other's inheritances. We look around at neighbors, co-workers, and family members and see what a large lot in this life they have received. Then we look at our income, our vehicle, our home, our clothes, our provisions and we are tempted to compare apples to oranges. Sure what we have in this life isn't as large as what others have but friends in this life we are promised provision not inheritance, We have an eternal inheritance that fades not away!

The forgiveness we have in the Lord can't be compared to all the money this world has to offer, "what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?" The Joy of the Lord is greater than all the happiness that this world has to offer, our inheritance is far greater than houses and lands, it is eternal fades not away. Then on top of this God has promised us provision in this life as well, "I have yet to see the righteous forsaken or his seed begging bread." Do you remember Jesus's words to those who would seek the kingdom of God first? "All these things [needs] shall be added unto you!" We have the promise of eternal inheritance and earthly provision.

We are a royal priesthood, with an eternal inheritance that all of eternity will not fade away. When riches have been spent, when lands have been sold, when houses have collapsed our God will be the same God he has always been, His Mercy, Love, Righteousness, and every other attribute will be just as glorious as before. Our inheritance fades not. Our provision in this life may seem small but when it is used up there will be a fresh supply, until we receive our eternal inheritance we will live on our father's provisions in this life.

1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
